Conference: 10-12 September 1999 A major conference featuring more than fifty international and Australian speakers will provide an important forum for the discussion of current arts and cultural practice in the Asia-Pacific region. Continuing the theme 'Beyond the Future', the conference will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre adjacent to the Gallery, with associated events presented in the Gallery. An estimated 600 international and Australian delegates are expected to attend. Leading speakers - artists, theorists, academics and curators - will contribute to this important forum. The conference is organised by the Gallery in association with Griffith University's Centre for the Study of Australian-Asia Relations, Brisbane. Reduced registration fees will be offered to students. Pre-conference and registration information are available online through the APT web site. Catalogue and Publications The substantial full-colour catalogue produced to accompany APT3 will be a significant reference publication on current contemporary artists and art practice in the region. Specially commissioned essays by approximately ninety leading international and Australian writers will be included, as well as biographical information and statements from participating artists. The catalogue will add to existing Asia– Pacific Triennial publications, and continues the Gallery's commitment to furthering and publishing research and scholarship in this field. Visitor and Education Programs APT3 offers many opportunities for visitors to engage with artists and artworks. Extensive visitor programs will include performances, artists' talks, curators' talks, guided _tours, films, lectures and the APT Lounge. Education programs are currently being developed for primary, secondary and tertiary students and will include Kids' APT. teachers' previews, guided tours, slide sets and lectures, as well as substantial education kits developed in consultation with Education Queensland and distributed to schools nationally. The Gallery also supports professional development through a program of work experience and internships for international and Australian students and museum professionals. APT Lounge The APT Lounge will provide a unique opportunity for visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the contexts and contributions of individual APT3 artists and artworks. Access to the Virtual Triennial (APT web site) and video documentation of artists' talks and performances will also be available in this dedicated space, along with background information including current journals, publications and resources on contemporary Asian and Pacific artists. Kids' APT Following the success of the Gallery's recent series of children's exhibitions, Kids' APT will be presented for the first time within the exhibition. Kids' APT promises to be stimulating, educational and fun for families, and is particularly designed for children aged between three and twelve. Interactive artworks and projects developed by artists expressly for children will feature in Kids' APT. Documentary Film A feature-length documentary film exploring various dimensions of the Third Asia-Pacific Triennial is planned for national and international distribution. Nationally screened documentary films were produced in association with the First and Second Asia-Pacific Triennials. International Visitors· Outreach Program The International Visitors' Outreach Programwill link at least sixty participating artists, curators, writers and scholars with audiences throughout Queensland and Australia. Schools, universities, arts and community organisations, art museums and regional galleries are working closely withthe Gallery to host residencies, artist-in-schools programs, workshops, exhibitions and lecture programs.
