N i ranjan RAJAH Niranjan RAJAH is a Lecturer in Art H istory and Theory at the Universiti Ma laysia , Sarawak. Niranjan Rajah was educated at St. Johns I nstitution in Kuala Lumpur and at Oakham School in the Un ited Ki ngdom . He has a BSc Economics degree from the University of London , a post-graduate Diploma in Law from the Polytechnic of Central London and an MA in Fine Art from Goldsmith's Col lege . He has been practising and writing about art si nce 1 989, and contributed an essay on the artist Fauzan Omar to the Second APT catalogue. Somporn RODBOON Associate Professor Somporn Rodboon is Senior Lecturer in the Art Theory Department, Faculty of Painting , Sculpture and Graphic Arts at Silpakorn University, Bangkok. She holds an MA (Art Ed .) and a Professional Deg ree i n Education (Post Masters) from the University of I l l inois, USA. Professor Professor Rodboon has served on the International Advisory Board of the Asian Pacific Confederation on Arts Education , and on the Advisory Board of the National Art Gallery Bangkok. She is a former Director of Sil pakorn University Art Gallery. She was co-curator and local co-ordinator for Thailand and a catalogue writer for the Second APT. Kanaga SABAPATHY T. K. Sabapathy is a Singapore-based art critic and lecturer at the School of Architecture , National University o f Singapore . He was born in Singapore i n 1 938 and studied Art History at the University of Singapore, the University of California, Berkeley and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London . He lectured in art history at the Universati Sains Malaysia in Penang (1 972-80) and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Museum of Art, Malaysia for two terms (1 972-78) . He is the author of A View of Modem Sculpture in Malaysia (1 976) , Piyadasa (1 978) , (with Redza Piyadasa) Modem Artists of Malaysia, and edited Modernity and Beyond: Themes in Southeast Asian Art (1 996) . Kanaga Sabapathy was co-curator for Singapore and a catalogue writer for the Second APT. Christopher SAINES Christopher Saines is Director of the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki , Aotearoa/ New Zealand , a position he has held since February 1 996. He was previously the Manager, Curatorial and Support Services Program (1 987-95) and an Education Officer (1 984-87) at the Queensland Art Gallery. I n 1 992 he attended the John Paul Getty Trust's Museum Management I nstitute at the University o f California, Berkeley and , i n 1 995, was Chair o f the Museums Australia 1 995 Brisbane Conference Committee. He was appoi nted to the Second APT National Advisory Committee in 1 994, and was also a member of the curatorial team for Korea. Semsar SIAHAAN Semsar Siahaan was born i n Medan, North Sumatra in 1 952. He studied painting at the San Francisco Art I nstitute (SFAI) and is a graduate of the Fine Arts Department, Bandu ng Institute of Technology, Bandung . Semsar Siahaan is a painter, sculptor and multi-med ia artist whose work is shown in both solo and group exhibitions i n I ndonesia and internationally. He is committed to the struggle for social j ustice and has been involved in many environmental and human rights organisations and with the I ndonesian Pro-Democracy Movement. Dolorosa SINAGA Dolorosa Sinaga was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art at the Jakarta I nstitute of the Arts in 1 994. Born i n North Sumatra i n 1 952, she is a graduate of the Jakarta Institute of the Arts and completed post graduate studies i n scu lpture at St. Martin's School of Art, London. Her work has been exhibited i n I ndonesia, the United States and the United Ki ngdom. Among her awards is the 'Krida Anodya Tama' which she received in 1 995 from the I ndonesian Mi nister o f Women 's' Affairs for outstanding personal achievement as an artist. 1 5 1
