Brought to Light Australian Art 1850-1965

Brought to Light- Australian Art 1850-1965, a new publication on the Australian Art Collection of the Queensland Art Gallery; has been designed to be groundbreaking in its scope and appeal and to establish a new model for the documentation of visual arts collections in Australia. Brought to Light - Australian Art 1850-1965 is not a catalogue of the Collection but an anthology of commissioned essays on selected works of particular significance and interest. Approximately 150 works from the Collection are illustrated in full colour and discussed in a series of 60 papers. All the essays are original, with authors drawn from the Gallery's professional staff and from other experts, scholars, artists and art historians who have been commissioned as external contributors. Each of the authors has been given an opportunity to place works from the Queensland Art Gallery's Australian Art Collection in historical and social contexts which will expand the reader's knowledge of specific works of art and ofAustralian art history. Consequently many comparative illustrations from various sources such as other public collections and artists' archives are a special feature of the book, adding to its liveliness and relevance to a wide audience. Featured artists include George Folingsby; Arthur Streeton, William Barak, Rupert Bunny; George Lambert, R. Godfrey Rivers, Vida Lahey; Roland Wakelin, Grace Cossington Smith, Daphne Mayo, Lloyd Rees, William Dobell, Russell Drysdale, Grace Crowley; Margaret Preston, Max Dupain, Sidney Nolan, Albert Tucker, Ian Fairweather, Albert Namatjira, Fred Williams, Yvonne Audette, John Olsen and Ian Bum. 320 pages Over 300 illustrations
