I n 1900 his pa r en t s a r r anged f o r him t o go t o Eu r ope t o continue his studies, f i r s t u n d e r Julius Olsson a n d Algernon Talmage a t St. Ives, Cornwall, a n d l a t e r a t Julian's Academy, Paris, under Professors Baschet a n d Schommer. He r e t u r n e d t o Australia in 1905 and settled permanently in Sydney in 1918. Director o f t h e National Gallery of New South Wales 1937-1944. Awarded Wynne Prize, Sydney, 1908, 1930, 1939. H e devotes himself entirely t o landscape painting i n oils. H a s made ma n y trips ab r oad a nd painted a n d exhibited extensively o n t h e Continent. Represented i n all t h e Australian Galleries a n d in ma n y private collections.
