Born Melbourne a n d studied a t t h e National Gallery Schools f r om t h e age o f fourteen, showed early promise a n d won ma n y prizes while in t h e school. Joined t h e A.I.F. in World W a r I I serving i n t h e Artillery and Camouflage. Wa s l a t e r appointed a n official w a r artist, working i n Timor and New Guinea. Since 1945 h e h a s won t h e Crouch Prize f o u r times, two a r t prizes a t Bendigo, t h e Melville Prize in Adelaide, prizes in Pe r t h , Albury, and Geelong. I n 1952 wa s awarded t h e He n r y Caselli Richards Memorial Prize f o r his land- scape "Th e Glass House Mountains." He wa s also awarded t h e Wynne Prize f o r 1952. I n 1949 he wa s awarded a p a r t scholarship b y t h e British Council, studied a t t h e Westminster School o f Ar t , London, a n d travelled extensively in Europe. Re t u r ned t o Australia in 1951. H e is a figure a nd landscape painter i n oils a n d wa t e r colours a n d a competent d r a ugh t sma n in various mediums. BUNNY, RUPERT, 1864-1947 Australian School. Bo r n a t St. Kilda, Victoria. Commenced his a r t t r a i n i ng at t h e Melbourne National Gallery School under Folingsby, a nd l a t e r we n t t o Paris a n d studied under J e a n Pa u l Laurens. Bunny ma r r i e d a Frenchwoman and lived i n Pa r i s f o r ma n y years. He exhibited a t t h e P a r i s Salon continuously f r om 1886 t o 1900, a t t h e New Salon a nd t h e Au t umn Salon, being a membe r of both these societies. H a s also exhibited a t t h e Royal Academy, London, a n d at Pittsburg, United States o f America. He is among t h e few Australians whose work is represented in t h e Luxembourg Gallery, Paris, a nd t h e principal Aus- t r a l i an galleries. H e r e t u r ned t o Australia in 1933 a n d settled in Melbourne. A figure, po r t r a i t a n d landscape painter, and h a s painted ma n y large decorative canvases.
