90reword Th e Trustees of the Qu e e n s l a n d National Art Ga l l e r y a r e p l e a s e d to present this exhibition of paintings b y Wa l t e r Richard Sickert a n d bronzes b y Sir Jacob Epstein. Sickert's reputation a s the finest a n d most important English painter since Turner g a i n s steadily a n d Epstein is widely a c c l a ime d a s the greatest living sculptor. It is the first time that a n exhibition of the collected wo r k s of either Sickert or Epstein, from National Galleries a n d private collections in Australia, h a s been held. Unfortunately it w a s not possible for the National Ga l l e r y of Victoria to lend from their collection pa i n t i ng s a n d bronzes p u r c h a s e d through the Felton Bequest, otherwise the exhibition wou l d b e richer b y s ome ten works. This is, a s it stands, a n important exhibition a n d o n e that m a y not b e seen a g a i n in Brisbane.
