3 2 PLASTIC ABSTRACTION Collection V.D., Rome RENATO BIROLLI Born at Verona 1906; lives in Milan. He took an active part in the new experiments of Italian Art, passing from the second "Novecento" to expressionism and post-cubism, and then he gained renown in the "New Ar t Front," but with accentuated leanings towards the abstract. His work is to be found in many European and American art galleries. He has been awarded various prizes for painting 3 3 WOMEN A T T H E WINDOW Collection F. Schettini, Milan 3 4 BRETON PORT Collection V.D., Rome ENRICO BORDONI Born at Altare (Savona) 1904; lives in Milan where he teaches at the Academy of Beaux Arts. He took part in various collective exhibitions, also giving one-man shows. H e was awarded various prizes, amongst which were the first prize at the Paris Exhibition of Decorative Arts and the Grand Prix at the Milan "Triennial Exhibition." His painting has abstract tendencies 35 COMPOSITION (1955) POMPEO BORRA Born in Milan 1898; lives in Milan where he is professor of painting at the Brera Academy. His artistic formation having started during the "Novecento" trend, he later used a purely personal stylistic expression in which the concept of colour both as formal and pictorial expression prevails. H e also has various art publications to his ëredit 3 6 MUSICIAN 3 7 HORSEMEN 38 FIGURE GASTONE BREDDO Born at Padua 1915; lives in Venice where he teaches at the Academy o f Beaux Arts. After various experiences during these last years he has passed from the figurative tendency to the non-figurative. His painting is prevalently of a tonal character.
