see this as quiche as some people look at it as trite trivial world. I think in terms of the need for the object to give assemblance of a meaning of a community of artists I think these are very real experiences. But lets go back to t h e .......... that is another traditional South East Asian... One of the things that has emerged in Malaysia now is the narrative tradition. Here is a 50's picture of an artist using................ I think one of the most interesting experiments also took place in the 1950s in which a Chinese artist attempted to construct a kind of cosmology founded on the South East Asian reality. Here you will find the earth divided into top, middle, bottom. You find the earth madam embracing the men who if you will see the men they are all stretched out in the Balenese ............ pose. If you look down you will find this woman, the earth madam gets into the water and then two dancers are straight from ........ but this kind of synchronisation now begins to be another area that we might want to look at in the future. Another area which has not been very much developed is a kind of cross cultural look at the areas communities. In my own work from the 1980s onwards, I have worked from old photographs. Considering the Malaysian myth is a very largely Malay myth, the history of our other communities have been played down, they have almost sometimes not even getting a chance to surface. I have worked on a series recording from old photographs and reworking these in collages of mine, communities from various communities from our country. This is the Chinese community early nineteenth century. This is a Hindu-Muslim family, a Indian Hindu came from India and married a Malay girl so in my pictures in a way I am narrating a story of t h e .....
