1993 APT1 Conference : Identity, tradition and change

2 sewing kits, threads and things like that, those materials. Of course I know that the kind of material they use is only part of it, but that does not necessarily represent women’s identity. However, I think that it is a necessary step for us, because women start to talk about their stories and express their own things through their work and their own languages. So far before it had not been recognised. We’ve got to start with our own familiar memories and familiar kind of languages and we can talk history - our own history with.......it’s not history but the word I should have used was herstory. Traditionally to express themselves women had been using silence as the voice, however, I think women should be awakened and be different from silence from now on. It might make a big voice where some kind of contemplative(?) type of expression would surprise everybody, however, we have to start with shouting, that’s the first step. Until that voice or our noise could penetrate and destroy the history or the language that is made by history for a long time, we should start to use our own language and start to shout. Thank you.
