The project in APT10 is presented with support from Southland Museum and Art Gallery Niho o Te Taniwha Iwi Liaison Komiti comprised of members of kā rūnaka Awarua, Hokonui, Waihōpai and Ōraka Aparima Rūnaka, who also previously have guided activity during 2016, 2017 and 2019. We thank the komiti for continuing inspiration and recognise the particular guidance of both Kaumatua Michael Skerrett and Kaumatua Stewart Bull. The project is in partnership with Southland Museum and Art Gallery (SMAG) Niho o Te Taniwha, Otago Museum (OM) and Southern research collaboration with the University of Otago Archaeology Programme. We remember those who passed during the time of this work, Tahu Pōtiki and Erin Tuhura. Additional guidance and support about the creative approach from Suzanne Ellison (Kāti Huirapa ki Puketeraki) led to new oral histories in 2019 with both Brian Allingham and Gerard O’Regan (Kāi Tahu). Atholl Anderson (Kāi Tahu), Gerard O’Regan (Kāi Tahu) and Alex Monteith curated taoka emergent from 2016/7 inventory work. David Dudfield and Kimberley Stephenson facilitated management of SMAG collections movement between SMAG and DPAG partnered with Lucy Hammonds at DPAG. New inventory work with SMAG was facilitated by David Dudfield and Kimberley Stephenson and OM collection work was led by Rachel Wesley and Anne Harlow. Inventory work and co-curation of emergent taoka from Otago Museum’s collection was by Vicki Lenihan, Baylee Smith (Ngāti Maniapoto), Rachel Wesley and Koreana Wesley-Evans (Kāi Tahu, Kāti Mamoe, Waitaha). The SMAG inventory work was undertaken by Laura Davies. Jacinta Beckwith (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu) linked material held within the Hocken Collections – Uare Taoka o Hākena (Coutts’s field notes). Vicki Lenihan led community engagement. The project was accompanied by Kaihaukai Art Collective comprising Simon Kaan (Kāi Tahu, Kāti Mamoe, Waitaha, Kāti Irekehu, Kāti Mako) and Ron Bull Jr (Kāti Te Ākau) working with Tony Heptinstall. In 2020 Erin Tuhura (assistant registrar SMAG), during national COVID-19 lockdown, entered thousands of the inventory contents into SMAG’s Vernon Cultural heritage management software. Te Reo Māori translation was by Rauhina Scott-Fyfe. Supported at Dunedin Public Art Gallery, and curated by Lucy Hammonds. Funding was Creative New Zealand Toi Aotearoa and Dunedin Public Art Gallery Visiting Artist Programme hosted by the Dunedin School of Art. 2017 Coastal Flows Coastal Incursions Alex Monteith with Mark Adams, Atholl Anderson, Lori Bowers, David Dudfield, Vicki Lenihan and Gerard O'Regan, ST PAUL St Gallery Taua Shona Fordyce (Ōraka Aparima) and Lynley McKay (Ōraka Aparima) were kaitiaki of the taoka between Waihōpai and Tāmaki Makaurau. Guidance and Mihi Whakatau in Tāmaki Makaurau were with Sharon Hawke (Ngāti Whātua ki Ōrākei), Taiaha Hawke (Ngāti Whātua ki Ōrākei), Valance Smith (Ngāpuhi, Waikato, Ngāti Haina, Ngāti Pākehā) and Professor Pare Keiha (Whānau-a-Taupara / Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki, Rongowhakaata). Mark Adams presented work, and Atholl Anderson, Gerard O’Regan and Alex Monteith curated taoka integrated alongside inventory work undertaken by Lori Bowers and Vicki Lenihan.
