The Second Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Brisbane, Australia, 1996 : Report

PROJECT OFFICE The Second Asia-Pacific Triennial Project Office comprised of the Senior Project Officer and two Project Officers. During the most demanding stages of the project, the Project Office engaged a part-time Administrative Assistant as well as a number of volunteers. The Project Team was responsible for the extremely complex task of co-ordination and organisation of all aspects of the Second Triennial. Additionally, the Project Team was involved in the intellectual development of the project. The Project Team organised and co-ordinated the National and International Forums, including agendas, visits and evaluation of comments and suggestions. During the curatorial visits (August - November 1995), the Project Team organised all travel and accommodation arrangements for all curatorial teams. The Project Team operated as the liaison between all participants (artists, writers, curators, conference speakers) and all Gallery sections involved in the project, co­ ordinating the project's development through effective communication channels, negotiations and problem solving techniques. The Project Team co-ordinated and was actively involved in the development and production of the Second Asia-Pacific Triennial catalogue, supplements and Resource Kit. The Project Team worked closely with the Promotions and Education sections to facilitate media interviews and Education programs. The Project Team prepared written material on the participating artists and artworks for promotional and educational purposes. The Project Team was the liaison between the artists, galleries and collectors involved and the Gallery's Registration and Exhibitions sections which organised the transportation of artworks and installation of the Second Triennial exhibition, respectively. The Project Team was responsible for the travel and accommodation arrangements of all participating artists, curators and conference speakers and ensured that all official visitors were met at the airport and were transported to all official commitments as well as to the airport for their return journey. All administrative tasks including payments, photography identification, medical needs and general queries were directed through the Project Office. The Project Team assisted co­ ordination of the Artists Camp which was organised in collaboration with the Gallery's Corporate Liaison section. Information regarding all individuals involved in the Second Triennial was entered onto the Asia-Pacific Project Database which has been a valuable administrative tool. The Project Team maintained the Asia-Pacific Project Database and assisted in the development of the Asia-Pacific Artists Database providing updated information. Both Databases were developed and maintained in close collaboration with the Gallery's Library. The Project Team organised and maintained a photographic archive of all artists and artworks in the Second Triennial. Project staff were responsible for the administration of reproductions of these images for research, educational and promotional purposes. 3
