Publ ished in conj unction with APT3, this is essential read ing for all those interested in contemporary art and culture. Beyond the Future was the most recent add ition to the series of APT publ ications. This un ique collection of original essays by lead ing Australian and international scholars explores the d iversity and dynamism of contemporary art in " the region . Painting, installation , video, new media and innovations within trad itions are addressed . The publ ication includes 280 pages and over 340 illustrations. The cover illustration was comm issioned by the Gallery from APT3 participating artist Guan Wei and was developed from his APT3 work Feng Shui, 1 999. 1 1 7 commissioned essays by 85 writers d iscuss the work of 77 artists from 20 countries through illustrated texts . An additional 40 essays explore contemporary Asia-Pacific art and the past decade of vigorous cultu ral practice . Details of artworks, selected artists' statements, informative artist biographies and a bibliography are also included . With over 70 ful l-page colour illustrations, this exciting and important publication makes a significant contribution to cross-cultural d ialogue and to understanding the vibrant contemporary art of Asia and the Pacific.
