KIDS' APT: FACT SHEET • Kids' APT is an exciting innovation with in the Third Asia-Pacific Trienn ial of Contemporary Art. • Kids' APT aims to enhance the understanding and enjoyment of the artworks on d isplay and increase awareness of cultures in the Asia-Pacific region . • It provided ch ildren an opportun ity to explore artworks especially selected and created for children aged 3- 1 2 years . • It proved to be stimulating, educational and fun for all visitors . • Children could join the Lucky Dragon, the Kids' APT icon, on an exciting adventure of d iscovery through APT3. · • Selected artworks withi n APT3 were accompanied by easy-to-read labels especially written for children and easily distinguished by the Lucky Dragon icon (a comm issioned design by Queensland illustrator/cartoonist, Simon McLean) • Each label listed the name of the artist, a simple description and explanation of the artwork and several questions des igned to challenge the ch ildren's understanding of the artwork. • An activity booklet was also available. It featured interesting and educational ideas that wil l delight and captivate children as wel l as enhance their journey through t he exhibition . • The activity booklet introduced children to works by artists from d ifferent countries in the Asia-Pacific region . • Activity booklets were available. Booked school groups receive the activity book free of charge. • Kids' APT included a dedicated ch ildren's activity area. This provided ch ildren with an opportun ity to participate i n artist-designed activities and make their own artworks . • The activity area also d isplayed the artworks by participating APT3 artists who created works especially for children . • A dedicated ch ildren's Onl ine Gallery, accessible through the APT3 Website < www . apt3. net>, exhi bited art works created by children invited to imagine their world 'Beyond the Future'. • A series of children's activities as part of 'Sunday at the Gallery' took place throug hout the exhibition . Hol iday workshops fo r children were also schedu led . • Bookings for school groups were made 1 5 days in advance to secure a guide. • Artists who created activities for children included : CAI Guo Qiang N .S . HARSHA XU Bing Surasi KUSOLWONG David ALESWORTH and Duriya KAZI • The following artists were commissioned by the Gallery to lead workshops for children: Heri DONO M ichel TUFFERY + Patrice KAI KILEKOFE 34
