EXH I B ITION DESIGN + I NSTALLATION PROCESS The Exhibitions Section under the direction of Head , Design and Installation, Andrew Clark worked closely with the Project Office and the Registration Section ; and l iaised d i rectly with artists and curators to realise the installation of 1 44 works in the Gallery. Andrew Clark worked closley with the Deputy Director, Dr Caroline Turner, and the Senior Project Officer, Rhana Devenport from August 1 998 to September 1 999 towards the appropriate placement of artworks in the QAG spaces. Considerable time was spent in the fair allocation of materials for artist's work and appropriate exhibition spaces . Specialist staff were engaged including a trainee arch itectural student (Un iversity of Qld). Assistance was negotiated with the Department of Architecture (University of Qld) to assist in the preparations and i nstallation of the work Bridge crossing by Cai Guo Qiang including 'stress testing' of bamboo. Two structual engineers were engaged to facil itate the installation of Bridge crossing by Cai Guo Qiang to meet all Health and Safety requirements . Considerable structural alterations were made to the QAG and a number of rooms were constructed with in the Gallery to meet specific requirements of artists . A number of works (eg Lee Ming Wei's Writing the Unspoken) were constructed entirely by QAG Workshop Sstaff on QAG premises . A number of art students (QUT, UQ and Griffith University) were g iven work experience placements during the installation process . 57
