APT 2002 Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Brisbane, Australia : Report

Part 1: Children’s preferences and comments from interview data Overall favourite At the beginning of the interview, children were asked to comment on what they liked best about their visit to the Queensland Art Gallery. While the responses were diverse, art works were by far the most popular reply. Children also indicated a preference for ‘making’ activities (Kids’ APT and ‘Summer Spectacular’) and performances. This was a pleasant surprise since it is considered difficult to connect children with contemporary Asia-Pacific art. The children’s preferences were widespread, but on a restricted choice of 6 important works in the APT, they showed a strong bias towards the work of Yayoi Kusama [ Narcissus garden and Soul under the moon (Infinity Room)], with more than 65% indicating this artist’s work as of high impact (see Appendix C for 2 nd and 3 rd preferences).
