MULTIMEDIA ENHANCEMENTS In order to create a richer, more dynamic and interactive multimedia experience for visitors to the website, two multimedia developers were commissioned to produce multimedia enhancements for the website. LIVEWORM STUDIOS A post-graduate honours student based at Queensland College of Art’s Liveworm Studios was commissioned to design and develop a number of Flash-based interactive programs to enhance the ‘Artists and Works’ section of the site. Two such programs were eventually completed and placed on the site – one featuring the work of Michael Ming-Hong Lin and the other featuring Yayoi Kusama. Both programs included video segments of interviews with the artists. QUICKTIME VR ENHANCEMENTS A local multimedia production company, Walkabout VR, was commissioned to produce 360 degree Quicktime VR representations of four installation spaces within the APT 2002 exhibition. The four completed presentations included the interior of Yoyoi Kusama’s installation Soul under the moon , as well Gallery’s 5 and 6 (featuring the work of Michel Ming Hong Lin and Heri Dono); the Watermall (Yayoi Kusama’s Narcissus Garden and paintings by Howard Taylor and Gallery 14 (sculptural works by Montien Boonma). The VR presentations were linked form the Introduction page, and serve to provide a quick visual overview of a significant component of the exhibition. WEBSITE USAGE - PAGE ANALYSIS Artists and Works By far the most popular area of the APT 2002 website was the ‘Artists and Works’ section, accounting for 83.1% of all page views. The most popular artists, based on website usage statistics, were Yayoi Kusama (12.2% of artists’ page views), followed by Suh Do-Ho (7.8%) and Montien Boonma (7.5%). Education 4,675 page views were recorded on the Education section of the site, with 1088 downloads of the APT 2002 Education Resource Kit (in PDF format). Kids’ APT 6,890 page views were recorded on the Kids’ APT area of the site, with 2,321 page views of the Kids’ APT ‘Summer Spectacular’ program, mostly recorded in January. A rise in usage of the site during January can be attributed to the widespread promotion of the ‘Summer Spectacular’. Events Calendar 5,041 visitors to the site used the Events Calendar search page. Introduction The introductory section of the APT 2002 website was the least popular content area, recording a total of 4,141 page views. GLOSSARY OF STATISTICAL TERMS USED IN THIS REPORT ‘Hits’ refers to the total number of individual transactions between the web browser and the host website, and can include activation of any navigation item or graphic on the site, such as accessing a new page or opening a pop-up image from the currently loaded page. ‘User sessions’ refers to the entire period from the time the visitor enters the site to when they leave. Each ‘user session’ is generally equated with representing an individual visitor to the website. ‘Page views’ refers to the number of times a specific page on the website is accessed. In some cases the same page may be accessed a number of times during the one session, especially where that page contains navigation that links to other areas of the site. 114
