APT 2002 Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Brisbane, Australia : Report

Within APT 2002, selected artworks were accompanied by easy-to-read children’s labels with questions designed to enhance younger children’s understanding of the artwork. Didactic panels and interpretative resources accompanied the exhibition. A 160 page colour APT 2002 publication, postcards and merchandise are available from th e Gallery Store. Visit the Education website a t http://www.qag.qld.gov.au/apt2002/education APT 2002 INTERPRETATION STATIONS Interpretation Stations were developed for APT 2002 as an innovative method of presenting interpretative material within the exhibition space. The stations were custom designed to house a variety of educational material including: documentary video interviews with the artists, didactic texts introducing the artist and their work, contextual publications, resources and exhibition catalogues, audio, and in some cases contextual material including photographs and materials used by the artist in the production of the work. Over 200 publications were sourced for display within 12 interpretation stations. The stations were situated within the Gallery spaces in close proximity to the artist’s work, thereby encouraging visitors to actively access information about the artist and their work. The stations were distributed throughout the exhibition in the following way: eight individual artist stations, three combined stations incorporating material on more than one artist and a separate station near the screening room dealing with the Moving Image. Feedback on this innovative method of presenting information was extremely positive.
