Dr Colin Dillon AMP, Natalie Alberts Shioda Junichi, Lee U-fan, Nalini Malani, Johan Pijnappel, Heri Dono Nakahashi Katsushige The official opening of the Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art 2002 was held on Thursday, 12 September 2002. An Indigenous welcome was offered by Dr Colin Dillon AMP; Natalie Alberts, Acting Coordinator Musgrave Park Cultural Centre. Speeches were given in Gallery 5 at 7pm by Doug Hall, Director; Mrs Ann Gamble Myer, Deputy Chair, Board of Trustees and the Hon. Matt Foley MP, Minister for Employment, Training and Youth and Minister for the Arts. The Hon. Peter Beattie MP officially opened the exhibition in front of 2,069 guests including local and international artists, writers, curators, Government dignitaries and staff. Caxton Street Catering served a selection of food on presentation tables in addition to a noodle bar in the Upper Sculpture Courtyard. Drinks were served at various wet bars in the Pelican Pool Lounge and Water Mall as well as via six mobile bars. Local Brisbane DJs Scott Reid ‘DJ Shredlock’ and Kazu Kimura provided the entertainment and were located outside the Friends’ Room. Guests departed at 11pm.
