Kids' APT7 : In review

19 KIDS’ APT7 ON TOUR 18 KIDS’ APT7 ON TOUR The Gallery’s On Tour program is designed to extend QAGOMA’s programs to Gallery visitors from regional, remote and rural areas of Queensland, where long distances preclude audiences from travelling to Brisbane to see exhibitions and to participate in public programs. Galleries and community centres, schools and hospitals in 75 regional and remote Queensland centres participated in the Gallery’s Kids’ APT7 on Tour program between January and April 2013. Kids’ APT7 on Tour featured a selection of artist projects from Kids’ APT7, including Daniel Boyd’s multimedia interactive, which allowed users to reveal information from a concealed image via screens of dots; a recipe shared by Malaysian artist Ise; a drawing activity based on Farsi script by Parastou Forouhar; a mask- making project by Hahan; and a short film from Tromarama, in which electric lights and appliances come to life at night. Many venues invited local artists to facilitate workshops for children, highlighting the important role of artists in the community. Children enjoyed learning techniques to create their own comic and flip books inspired by the Children’s Art Centre publication Hahan and Friends , and took home their very own activity book based on the publication. One of the highlights of working on the On Tour program, now in its seventh year, is liaising with the hardworking staff and volunteers at the partnering venues. The KIDS’ APT7 ON TOUR JANUARY–APRIL 2013 enthusiasm for and importance of the arts in regional Queensland communities highlights the value of the On Tour program for these communities and for the Gallery. The Gallery is committed to assisting communities who were affected by flooding in Queensland in early 2013, by enabling them to participate in the program at a later date. Smiles abound and the activities are always popular. The Sunshine Coast galleries love to participate in the program as it brings another dimension and provides new creative stimulus for our community members. Our volunteers also find the program particularly enriching . . . We all love it. Julie Hauritz, Noosa and Caloundra Regional Galleries
