Kids' APT7 : In review
27 KIDS’ APT7 ON TOUR 26 KIDS’ APT7 ON TOUR THE BUTTER FACTORY ARTS CENTRE, COOROY Part of Mill Place, a community precinct in Cooroy, the Butter Factory Arts Centre presents a changing program of arts and heritage exhibitions and events, and hosts art workshops for all ages. The Butter Box served as the perfect location for the Kids’ APT7 on Tour program, facilitated by Butter Factory staff over two days. As part of the program, two artist-led cartoon workshops were held on Friday 18 January and Saturday 19 January. HERVEY BAY REGIONAL GALLERY A purpose-built cultural centre incorporating the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery and a brand new interpretive centre — the Fraser Coast Discovery Sphere — opened in Hervey Bay in December 2012. The new state-of-the-art public gallery showcases the creative talents of the Fraser Coast region’s artists and hosts artworks and artefacts on tour from galleries and museums across the country. From 7 to 27 January 2013, Hervey Bay Regional Gallery facilitated Kids’ APT7 on Tour, with 762 children and adults participating in the program. The Memento masko artist project by Indonesian artist Hahan was the most popular activity for participating children. Tromarama’s moving- image work, Wattt?! entertained all in attendance and the activity Persian for kids by Parastou Forouhar also proved popular. David brought examples of skateboard art (including his own) and provided (part of) an old skateboard deck for each workshop participant — this was an exciting surprise for the children. David taught the children to draw simple cartoons and how to apply these (and incorporate some of Hahan’s images) onto the decks. The children were very proud of their work! Taking 2D art work and taking it into the 3D realm exposed the children to new concepts in a creative and enriching manner. Thank you QAGOMA for the generous support of an artist for The Butter Factory Arts Centre to run workshops as part of Kids’ APT7 on Tour. Cathy Money, The Butter Factory Arts Centre, Cooroy It’s great to bring children into an art centre and have them feel welcome . . . I love art and want the kids to have an appreciation for it also.
