Kids' APT7 : In review
29 KIDS’ APT7 ON TOUR 28 KIDS’ APT7 ON TOUR BLACKWATER LIBRARY Located in the mining town of Blackwater in the Central Highlands, the Blackwater Library offers a range of books, audiovisual materials and resources for the local community. The library also has a strong activity program offering story time and craft sessions for children and their carers. The Blackwater Library facilitated Kids’ APT7 on Tour during the Easter school holidays for children in the local community. 18 children and adults engaged in the artist projects developed for the program. The adults enjoyed themselves as much as the children. KILCOY ART SOCIETY The Kilcoy Art Society is a group of local artists who partake in community art-based activities and workshops. Society members’ skills are varied and new ideas and techniques are constantly being explored. On Friday 18 January, 20 children participated in the Kids’ APT7 on Tour program, facilitated by the Kilcoy Art Society. A group of enthusiastic children enjoyed exploring the different ideas, countries and cultures on offer through the artist projects. At the conclusion of the program, children participated in a ‘show and tell’ activity by discussing their favourite project and what they had learnt. It’s great that we can offer the same high-quality program in a small country town that children in Brisbane enjoy. We look forward to participating in future events. Petrina, Blackwater Library We have families who look forward to the workshops every year and have expressed interest in having these every holiday as it is a wonderful opportunity for children in regional areas. The program gives the children exposure to art when they may not be able to visit the Gallery in Brisbane. The adults also enjoy the activities as much as the kids — it brings out the child within!
