Kids' APT7 : In review
40 KIDS’ APT7 AT QAGOMA UJI HANDOKO EKO SAPUTRO (AKA HAHAN) MEMENTOMASKO 2012 Inspired by Indonesian mask-making traditions and themes of family and childhood, the activity Memento masko successfully captured the imaginations of many young Gallery visitors. For this project, Hahan created a series of black-and-white masks that children could enhance with their own facial expressions. For Memento masko , Hahan also created a wall-to-wall mural for the gallery space, depicting an idealised family portrait. Together, the mural and the activity made a fitting tribute to family life and the role of raising children, with participants encouraged to reflect on the significance of their loved ones. Children were invited to draw their own expressions on to masks specially designed by Uji Handoko Eko Saputro (aka Hahan) for the Memento masko Kids’ APT7 project / Proposed gift to the Queensland Art Gallery Collection The experience of working with Kids APT has been invaluable in my career. Although a simple idea, the Memento masko project opens up great opportunities for communication and production of knowledge for both artists and the children. Uji Handoko Eko Saputro (aka Hahan)
