Naturally, the first buildings were near the creek to ensure a ready supply of water; the first reference to a settlement at Capella Creek is in 1865. MOURA YOUTH CENTRE, MOURA 13 January 2016 Attendance: 35 children and adults Banana Shire is situated in central Queensland. Steeped in agriculture, this resource-rich area was named in the nineteenth century after a bullock called ‘Banana’. Since 2013, Moura Youth Centre has provided a positive, safe and supervised environment where young people can socialise, relax and have fun through various activities, including games and cooking. It is also a place where they can access tutoring and homework assistance, information and advice. ‘All of the instructions and craft materials were great. The older children really enjoyed the game on the computer. Some of the children were interested to learn that the activities were inspired by artworks and stories from different countries. They enjoyed the variety of activities and were immediately engaged.’ ‘We look forward to receiving the news that there is a new Kids on Tour program coming, and seeing who the artists are and the activities involved. The artists come from varied backgrounds, so their activities are new and exciting each time.’ ‘The activities this year were very engaging, fun and easy to facilitate. We found they were suitable for a wide variety of ages, which enabled families to participate together. The Youth Centre volunteers were very interested in the activities and were happy to see their facility being utilised for such an event.’ ‘Thank you for providing this opportunity, which has enabled the Council to deliver activities for children in our smaller towns and to connect with local venues like the youth centre. Without the ready- made activities and supply of materials, we would not be able to deliver such activities for the children of the area.’
