APT8 kids in review

31 APT8 KIDS ARTWORKS AND PROJECTS Children visiting the Gallery had fun with the APT8 Kids mascot, a peacock named Mohan Mor. Designed by exhibiting artist Pushpa Kumari (India), Mohan Mor appeared on artwork labels and guided young visitors around the Gallery, introducing them to key artworks and concepts. Mohan Mor also greeted children as part of a large-scale wall graphic at the entry to the Children’s Art Centre. With performance being an important theme of APT8, the peacock — a natural performer — was a clear choice for the mascot. Male peacock birds are known for their dazzling green, blue and gold tails and their dancing to attract peahens. The name ‘Mohan’ comes from the classical Indian Sanskrit word ‘mohana’, which means to be charming, attractive and enchanting’; ‘Mohan’ is also a word used to describe the popular Hindu deity Krishna, who wears a peacock feather in his crown. The word ‘Mor’ comes from the Hindi language meaning ‘peacock’. MASCOT MOHAN MOR APT8 Kids mascot Mohan Mor designed by Pushpa Kumari
