In his works, he uses costume and movement to assume the identity of other people — from his own father to the Hong Kong action film star Bruce Lee. For APT8, Patel presented a video work called The Jump 2015 featuring the artist dressed as Spider-Man, his favourite childhood superhero, leaping off a couch in his grandmother’s living room. Alongside this video was a display of photographs featuring children from London dressed in homemade superhero costumes. Through these photographs, the artist encouraged young visitors to look into the lives of children living on the other side of the world. Families were also invited to be part of the art by sending in images of their own children dressed as superheroes. These images were featured in a digital display alongside Patel’s photographs. The fact that I can see my kids have fun and bond with them makes everything more of a special experience. Visitor comment
