APT8 kids in review

5 THANK YOU FROM QAGOMA The Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT) series of exhibitions is the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art’s flagship international contemporary art event focused on the artwork of Asia, the Pacific and Australia. Presented across QAG and GOMA, ‘The 8th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’ (APT8) included new and recent works by 83 artists from more than 30 countries across the region. APT8 emphasised the role of performance, with live events, video, kinetic art, figurative painting and sculpture exploring the use of the human form to express cultural, social and political ideas, and the central role of artists in articulating experiences specific to their locales. To complement APT8, the Gallery’s Children’s Art Centre developed the ambitious APT8 Kids exhibition, consisting of 12 artist projects and artworks displayed at the Gallery’s two sites, including the dedicated Children’s Art Centre spaces at GOMA. The projects — including immersive installations, interactive artworks, hands-on and multimedia activities — were curated to reflect key themes of the exhibition. APT8 Kids featured works by APT8 artists Richard Bell (Australia), Lawrence English (Australia), Choi Jeong Hwa (South Korea), Nge Lay (Myanmar), Hetain Patel (United Kingdom), Marcel Meltherorong (New Caledonia/ Vanuatu), UuDam Tran Nguyen (Vietnam), Rosanna Raymond (Aotearoa New Zealand), Justin Shoulder and Bhenji Ra (Australia), Venkat Raman Singh Shyam (India), Angela Tiatia (Aotearoa New Zealand/Australia), Yelena Vorobyeva and Viktor Vorobyev (Kazakhstan). THANK YOU FROM QAGOMA A child enjoying APT8 Kids APT8 and APT8 Kids would not have been possible without the valued commitment of the Gallery’s supporters, Tim Fairfax, AC , Gina Fairfax, and the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation (TFFF). Their passionate and ongoing support has enabled the Gallery to continue to present many, varied and creative projects for visitors and publish the Gallery’s ninth book for children, Draw, Make, Create: APT8 Kids . We are also grateful to the TFFF for assisting the Gallery to enrich the experience of thousands of families around Queensland through the APT8 Kids on Tour project which brought select APT8 Kids activities to 64 venues throughout the state. We hope you enjoy reading about the success of APT8 Kids. Executive Management Team, QAGOMA
