APT8 kids in review

7 FROM THE APT8 KIDS PROJECT TEAM Since its inception in 1999, Kids’ APT has become an eagerly awaited component of the Gallery’s APT series and a cornerstone of the Gallery’s programming for children and families. With every APT, the kids’ program engages visitors of all ages with contemporary art by exploring myriad cultures, beliefs and ideas from Australia, Asia and the Pacific. The APT8 Kids projects evolved through extensive research and close collaboration with participating artists, as well as regular trials conducted with local school children. To ensure that the final projects would be relevant and appealing to young visitors, staff spent months trialling activity concepts and design elements at Brisbane schools. We sincerely thank and acknowledge the staff and students of the Greek Community Child Care Centre, West End State School and St Ita’s Catholic School (Dutton Park), as well as the Gallery’s Young Members for their generous assistance and wonderful ideas. One of the most exciting aspects of Kids’ APT is the opportunity to extend the experience of the projects beyond the walls of the Gallery. Through the APT8 Kids on Tour and Children’s Art Centre publishing programs, young audiences engaged with select exhibiting artists and key themes of the APT8 exhibition without even visiting QAGOMA. We extend our deepest thanks to Tim Fairfax, AC , Gina Fairfax and the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation, whose support was crucial to realising APT8 Kids, APT8 Kids on Tour and the accompanying Draw, Make, Create: APT8 Kids children’s publication.
