APT9 kids in review

17 APT9 KIDS ON TOUR The Kids on Tour program allows regional and remote communities to access QAGOMA exhibitions and learn about Australian and international artists and their practices. Travelling to communities across the state from south east Queensland to the Torres Strait Islands to Birdsville, and reaching kids from Redland City to members of the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association, the program would not have been possible without the generous assistance of regional staff and volunteers. APT9 Kids on Tour has been a record-breaking program in the history of Kids on Tour, with the highest number of venues and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander centres. It has also spanned the most council areas and attracted the largest number of attendees. From 1 January to 30 April 2019, QAGOMA delivered APT9 Kids on Tour to 111 venues across 48 council areas in Queensland and the Torres Strait, including 16 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander centres. State wide, more than 29 000 people attended the program. The tour included activities developed by the Children’s Art Centre in collaboration with artists Pauline Kimei Anis (Bougainville), Sadik Kwaish Alfraji (Iraq/The Netherlands), Gary Carsley (Australia/The Netherlands), Nona Garcia (The Philippines), Vincent Namatjira (Australia) and Jakkai Siributr (Thailand). These activities were specially designed for children and families, enabling Queensland communities to enjoy key elements of the original exhibition at their local venue. The interactive highlighted all of the artists in APT9, featuring artwork images and information about the artists. Users were able to explore connections between the artists and artworks through a fun and interactive filtering system.
