30 APT9 KIDS ARTWORKS AND PROJECTS APT9 KIDS ARTWORKS AND PROJECTS SADIK KWAISH ALFRAJI A BOAT TO CARRY YOUR DREAMS 2018 Sadik Kwaish Alfraji works with drawing, painting and video animation to explore ideas of memory and nostalgia based on personal experience. Alfraji has created a number of artworks inspired by a letter he received from his 11-year-old nephew Ali while visiting Baghdad in 2009. Inside, Alfraji found a drawing of a small canoe-like boat and the words, ‘I wish my letter takes me to you’. This was Ali’s way of sharing his longing to leave the suffering in Iraq and join his uncle in the Netherlands. For APT9 Kids, Alfraji invited children to think about their own wish, which they could write or draw on paper and fold into a boat to transport their dreams. The project also featured the artist’s striking black-and-white animation Ali’s Boat 2015.
