Visitor comment Thank you for your amazing interactive art experiences. Visitor comment VINCENT NAMATJIRA POWER PORTRAITS 2018 Vincent Namatjira paints portraits of important figures of authority, from his great-grandfather Albert Namatjira, who was also a painter, to international heads of state, and politicians such as the seven Australian prime ministers who have been in power during his lifetime. Namatjira is a keen observer of national and international politics and the connections between leadership, wealth, power and influence. For APT9 Kids, Namatjira invited children — who are usually deprived of any real power or influence — to feel empowered by placing themselves within a virtual portrait and adopting ‘power icons’ inspired by the artist’s paintings, including a queen’s crown, a captain’s hat, a police officer’s uniform and a politician’s suit and tie.
