APT9 kids in review

57 APT9 KIDS PUBLISHING To coincide with APT9 and APT9 Kids, the Children’s Art Centre published its eleventh book for children and family audiences. Exhibiting artist Sadik Kwaish Alfraji collaborated with the Children’s Art Centre to adapt his artwork Ali’s Boat 1 2014 into a children’s storybook. The original artwork, held in the collection of the British Museum, features 100 beautiful charcoal illustrations with Arabic text. The 48-page storybook Ali’s Boat brings together APT9 KIDS PUBLISHING a selection of Alfraji’s striking drawings and poetic text to tell a story about his past, his family and his relationship with his country. Alfraji hopes that, by reading Ali’s Boat , children will keep dreaming and realise that we must all have a goal and work to achieve it. The publication was Highly Commended in the 2019 Museums Australia Publication Design Awards (MAPDA) in the category Children’s Book Level B.
