She became a registered nurse and went on to graduate as a teacher, and has worked at the Yirrkala Community Education Centre for almost 30 years. She is the author of several academic papers, an artist, elder and mother of three. Barbara Nuliny Ganambarr is one of the 35 natural children of deceased artist Mowarra Ganambarr, oam . In her early years she was brought up at his homeland at Rorruwuy on Arnhem Bay. She is director of Bawaka Cultural Tours to her homeland and co-author to the traditional basket-weaving handbook, Weaving Lives Together at Bawaka , and is an artist of bark, weaving and prints. Anna Haebich is a multi award winning author known for her innovative approaches to Australian history and culture. She has worked for many years with Aboriginal people and is part of the Nyungar community through marriage. Anna is a Research Professor at Griffith University and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities and the Australian Academy of the Social Sciences. John Kean is an exhibition producer at Museum Victoria, and was Museum Victoria’s Thomas Ramsay Science and Humanities Scholar 2004. In 1990 he curated ‘East to West: Land in Papunya Tula Painting’ at Tandanya, the National Aboriginal Cultural Institute in Adelaide, South Australia, and in the late 1970s he was Art Adviser for Papunya Tula Artists Pty Ltd. Elina Spilia is an art historian, writer and researcher who works across the disciplinary and industry domains of culture, ecology and law. She has worked with and for Yolngu people in northeast Arnhem Land, and is currently completing a PhD at the University of Melbourne while working in the field of environmental law. Diana Wood Conroy is an artist and writer with degrees in archaeology and art. Her concern with Aboriginal communities began in 1974 when she was coordinator of Tiwi Designs, Bathurst Island, Northern Territory. An archaeological approach informs her critical writing on textiles and tapestry. She is Professor of Visual Arts, Faculty of Creative Arts, University of Wollongong.
