Cai Guo-Qiang: Falling back to earth

10 11 Santos has been part of Queensland for over 50 years. In that time, we have grown from an outback explorer into a major energy company operating both in Australia and across Asia. Now Santos is embarking on the next phase of growth, investing billions of dollars to build a brand new industry in Queensland to liquefy natural gas for export to the world. Our growth and transformation has been matched by that of Queensland itself. The state can now lay claim to the nation’s premier contemporary art gallery, and at Santos we are proud to be partnering with QAGOMA to host another innovative exhibition. Cai Guo-Qiang is internationally renowned for his compelling art installations and his choreography of the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening and closing ceremonies. His work is striking, and it is particularly exciting that this exhibition was inspired by the Queensland landscape. Hosting an artist of this calibre further confirms Queensland as a leading centre for contemporary art, particularly in Asia and the Pacific. This reflects the deepening of our relationship with the region from one based on trade and investment to one characterised by cultural and artistic exchange. Santos is proud to be part of building these stronger ties. Our successful growth in Australia and across the region is enabling us to invest in bringing amazing art to Queensland for everyone to enjoy. It’s our pleasure to present ‘Cai Guo-Qiang: Falling Back to Earth’. Sponsor message David Knox, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Santos
