Air

Queenslanders share the same air, from across the Torres Strait and Cape York to the Granite Belt, the Gold Coast and beyond to the wider world. Air is the subject of this Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) exhibition, which explores this essential component of life through the work of more than 30 leading international and Australian contemporary artists, including notable Queensland artists d Harding, Charles Page and Jemima Wyman, as well as drawings from the late Lloyd Rees. Like its predecessor ‘Water’, presented by QAGOMA in 2019–20, ‘Air’ is a major exhibition developed in Queensland that encourages us to consider questions of sustainability, equity and connectivity, and to face the environmental and social challenges that are equally shared by all of us. ‘Air’ is supported through Queensland Government’s blockbuster funding, which since 2016 has invested $26.8 million for QAGOMA to present exclusive exhibitions, and through Tourism and Events Queensland’s It’s Live! in Queensland events program. ‘Air’ is a compelling example of the power of art to provoke deeper thought about the world around us. It also enhances Queensland’s reputation as a dynamic cultural hub in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, when our arts and culture will be showcased on a global stage.
