Under the Contemporary Art Acquisition Program, a large scale collage by Melbourne artist Elizabeth Gower was another important addition to the Collection. Recent Australian prints focussing on a group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander images ( ION, P ' J ' l - j were purchased to mark the I International Year for the World's ¼ Indigenous People. In addition, two fine examples of Tiwi art using natural ochres on paper, Pamajini (Armbands) 1993 by Jean Baptist tN Apuatimi and ParliniJilamara (Old design) 1993 by Kitty Kantilla, were presented by the Queensland Art Gallery Society. Acquisitions of Australian photography included characteristic images by senior photographer Wolfgang Sievers as well as works by Robyn Stacey, Christine Barry, Peter Lyssiotis and Charles Page. International acquisitions were highlighted by the purchase of three trial proof impressions of etchings and a linocut by Henri Matisse.
