Q U E E N S L A N D A R T G A L L E R Y FOUNDATION The Foundation Council launched a special Appeal at the Sponsorships through the Foundation commencement of the financial year to mark the Gallery's Acquisitions: Corporate Donors centenary. Both the corporate and private sectors were targeted Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited for donations, with a major membership drive to the private sector Brisbane BMW Renaissance Ball being instigated through the Appeal. A very successful result was ICI Australia Limited achieved, with thirty-six new or upgraded memberships recorded. National Australia Bank Limited Transfield Holdings Pty Ltd The Foundation continues to play a significant role in the Gallery's growth, with Foundation funding being increasingly important to the Acquisitions: Private Donors acquisition and exhibition needs of the Gallery. A total of $909 395 Mr Ray Lewis was recorded in generated funds, including cash donations, Mrs Joyce McCracken sponsorships, gifts of art works, government subsidy received, and interest earned on investments, bringing the total of funds generated Donations under the Contemporary Art Acquisition Program by the Foundation since its establishment in December 1979 to Dr Paul Eliadis $12 527 908. Through the Foundation, 254 works were acquired Mrs Joyce McCracken and two exhibitions and one publication were sponsored. Commissions The most outstanding of the many donations received through the Mr C.E.K. Hampson AO, QC Foundation during the year was the gift of 102 Fluxus works from One work commissioned: Francesco Conz of Verona, Italy. The donation was the largest single Harold Parker Lady Rosa Robinson 1905, cast 1994 donation received by the Gallery from an international source, with the donor's gesture based on his wish to see a proportion of his Events collection placed in an institution which would professionally manage Coopers & Lybrand and display it. The Gallery plans to present a major exhibition of the Queensland Art Gallery Foundation Seventeenth Annual Dinner Francesco Conz Donation in 1997 Mallesons Stephen Jaques Queensland A r t Gallery Foundation Membership Video Funds from Founder Benefactors Mrs Joyce McCracken and Dr Paul Eliadis and Fellows Mr Ray lewis and Mr Keith James acquired works Exhibitions for the Collection. Special Patron Mrs Jessica Ellis gifted a number Bank of Queensland Limited of works to the decorative arts collection, and Founder Benefactor 'A Time Remembered: A r t in Brisbane 1950 to 1975' and Queensland artist Betty Quelhurst gifted two of her works Santos Ltd painted in 1919. Funds received in the previous financial year from 'Australian Colonial Art: 1800-1900' Member Mr Cedric Hampson, AO, QC provided for the commissioning of a bronze casting of Harold Parker's Lady Rosa Publications Robinson 1905 from a cast gifted to the Gallery by Mrs Phyllis Bank of Queensland Limited Birdwood in 1991. A Time Remembered: Art in Brisbane 1950 to 1975 Significant corporate donations were received from John Trivett's Gifts through the Foundation Brisbane BMW as a result of sponsorship of the Brisbane BMW Donors Renaissance Ball, held in June 1995 to raise funds for the acquisition Francesco Conz program; from the Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd, the Mrs Jessica Ellis National Australia Bank Ltd, Transfield Holdings Pty Ltd, Perpetual Miss Betty Quelhurst Trustees Queensland Limited and Queensland Cement Ltd for Alan and Jan Rees acquisitions for the Collection; from Santos Ltd for sponsorship of the Art Gallery of South Australia exhibition 'Australian Colonial Art Projects funded by the Foundation and from the Bank of Queensland Limited in sponsorship of the Acquisitions very popular exhibition 'A Time Remembered ...' Sponsorships 130 works purchased for the Collection were also received from Coopers & Lybrand for the staging of the Assisted purchase of one work for the Collection Foundation's 1996 Dinner and from Mallesons Stephen Jaques for the production of a video promoting Foundation membership. The Foundation produces its own Annual Report, which details all aspects of the Foundation's operations and activities including sponsorships, gifts and donations.
