Queensland Art Gallery Annual Report 1996-97

The first three in a group of six pamphlets for production during 996- 97 were completed: Melbourne Tonolism; South Pacific: The Construction of Paradise; and Figuring Modernism: The Human Image in Australian Modern Art /920-1950. Work has already begun on three other pamphlets to be produced later in the year as part of this series: The Ellis Gift: English Porcelain at the Queensland Art Gallery; Observed and Contrived: Recent Internotionol Photography from the Queensland Art Go//cry Collection; and one on modernism and Aboriginality. These pamphlets, as well as Four Centuries of Ukiyo-e Prints, al accompanied in-house exhibitions of Collection :x works. Publications which explored works from both the Gallery's Collection and external sources were Marks and Moments Paintings by Gordon Shepherdson and the catalogue and resource kit for the second Triennial The later was a massive undertaking involving contributions from seventy-seven local 4 and international authors, and included discussions of sixty-nine individual artists and collectives. . To support the Gallery's three regional travelling exhibitions, The UrbanAM' Edge Historical and Contemporary Works from the Queensland Art Gallery Collection, Silver and Gold from the Collection of the Queensland Art Gallery 4 1753-1988 and Contemporary Vessels andJewels: Australian Fine Metalwork . . . . were produced. A pamphlet and a resource kit on still life works in the Collection are' preparation to accompany a forthcoming touring exhibition. . , A , . • - i ,4 Publications are currently being prepared to accompany forthcoming exhibitions on the work of Emily Kngwarreye, Francesco Conz and the P Intermedia Avant-Garde, and Aboriginal Australia in nineteenth-century art.
