.. i - the 21 st birthday of the annual Warana (Blue Skies) Festival - this year renamed Festiva l '82. Spanning three weeks from September 19 to October 10, it combines this year with the giant cultural and entertainment pro– gramme which complements the Games. It, too, is leaving its mark on the city by improving facilities and giv– ing people a wealth of excite– ment , fun and culture. It's a giant party which cat– ers for young and old, locals and visitors, art connoisseurs and amateurs. "Entertain– ment, artistic appreciation and lots of lively fun" is how the organisers sum it up. More than 700 performers from throughout Australia and most Commonwealth countries a rc participating. There is no n-stop entertain– ment . day and night. to involve the cit y and its vis– itors. Mo st of it is free and outside. The September - October period is probably the most pleasant in Brisbane, with normally clear, sunny days. warm nights and a maximum average temperature of 26C. The Festiva I provides a stun– ning spectacle of movement, music and bright colours. The vast range of events includes The Canadian Brass, the Can– adian Mounted Police, massed military concerts, country and western festivals, classical music, opera, ballet and an entire season of then– trical productions. There's kite flying, strolling .. , m1.1strels. tumbling clowns. puppeteers. weaving. painting a r.d pottery. Segments are carrying over to suburba n areas and placc·s such as Toowoomba, Ips– wich, Rcdcliffe, Redlands , the Gold Coast and the Sun– shine Coast, which arc all within 150km of Brisbane. Within the city itself, people can walk to most areas of Fes– tival fun . At night, red, white and blue lights guide them on their way. Some events arc exclusive to7 tl)e city and unique, such as the exhibition of jewellery, costumes and masks deve– loped specially for Festival '82.
