QUEEN Elizabeth last night told the ecstatic 2300 guests at a State Reception at the Queensland Art Gal– lery that Queensland'• performance acro11 the whole spectrum of bu1ine11 and economic activity was out– standing. The Queen wore a short-sleeved ap– ple green silk dress, lavishly embroi– dered with glittering beads, and a white mink stoic. The Queen said Quecnsland's con– tribution to Australia and the Com– monwealth c~tcnded far beyond the Games. The state's performance across the whole spectrum of business and economic activity was outstand– ing. It was rich in resources, a stable source of goods for world markets and a focus for business initiative, as well as being an increasingly popular inter– national holiday destination. "By promoting itself positively, the state is generating new jobs and better facilities for its people. This is reOect– ed in this magnificent Art Gallery built as part of the Quccnsla'nd Cultur– al Centre," the Queen said. · '"Prince Philip and I have l>cen very touched by the warmth and loyalty of the welcome given to 116 since we ar– rived in Queensland." ··. It was a landscape by Australian artist Fred Williams, who died earlier this year. . Earlier, the Queen dined privately · on board Britannia with the Duke of Edinburgh before leaving, by the royal . barge, for the Queensland Cultural Centre jelly, where she was greeted with a spectacular fireworks display.
