' ,,· 2000 years from Delphi to Brisbane A GREEK slalue, which has made a jo~rney spanning oceans and centuries, has found a n_ew home at the Queensland Cultural Centre. The statue, which is a plaster copy of the famous bronze "Charioteer of Delphi" was presented to the centre ytSte~day_by the Greek Consul, Mr .' 'ex Freeleagus, on behalf of the Greek Gofernment and people. The original, which dates back to the fourth cen– tury BC, was buried by an earthquake at Delphl in 373 BC. It was recofered by an exca1ation team, nearly 2000 years later, in 1893, and is now in the Delphi Museum, north of Athens. The plaster copy, which now stands in the cultural centre auditorium, is one of only two copies of the , charioteer in existance.
