The Courier-Mail 16 May 1983 Warrior show sets a record More than 20,000 people tlockcd to the Queensland Art Gallery and the Entombed Warriors exhibition yesterday, smashing daily atten– dance records. The display manager, Mr Chris Link, aaid that until yesterday, the av– erage daily attendance for the exhibi– tion in Bnsbane was about 4500 peo– plea day. The best in other states bad been 3500. "We had 20,000 people through here today and over 10,000 through the Entombed Warriors display which is a record for a single day,' he said. "We're moving 1400 people through here every hour. We've ex• tended the gallery hours and people are still queueing. "We've already had I 50,000 through the exhibition and we've still got about two weeks to run," In March and April last year, Queenslanders broke more daily atten• dance records when the Pompeii AD 79 display was at the Brisbane City Hall. According to the Pompeii display organiser, Mr Michael Grigg, more than 100,000 people saw that display and day records were broken for that · tour. Adults were not the only ones enJoy• ing visits to the Entombed Warriors yesterday. The gallery's education officer, Mr John Massy, said the children taking part in the clay modelling classes based on the display were lelrning his– tory as well as.,enjoying themselves. "Parents u'sually want to spend. more time in tt,e displays than the kids do, ,nd this is u good way of teaching theril the history of the warriors," Mr Massy aaid. . ·_ "We nan theaeclasses every Sunday · -afternoon and·wc lre fighting them off by about I.~ p.m. "We've (,t about 80 here today and last Sun~&y we had 66 kids in the clasa." · •
