The Toowwomba Chronicle 2 February 19 84 First decorative arts·· ·exlilbition The Queensland Art Gallery is currently show– ing a comprehensive ex– hibition of European decorative arts, including fine items of furniture, silver, porcelain and crystal. The exhibition will in– terest those who enjoy the art of interior decoration. Many pieces date from the eighteenth and nine– teenth centuries. Some arc of this century. One 'of the oldest, a Chinese porcelain spherical-shaped hard paste cobalt blue and white jar, decorated with peonies, pines, peaches ana birds, is dated in 1600s. A burr walnut secrewre with brass handles, cutcheons and hinges, f /7()().50 which is now displayed at the Queensland Art Gallery. It ls cast and modelled with nco-clanlcal figurative and foliate panels. A Wedgwood-Whcildon plate is ated c 1754. .Worcester, Chelsea, Der– by, Spode, Bclleek, Samuel Alcock, Doulton, Scvrcs and Meisscn porcelain and pottery is displayed. Fumitur pieces Include:: : / a cedar long-case clock 9 1852 - 56, a Victorian parlour setting, Louil XVI ! scllcc and four chairs in 1 glided wood, Hcpplcwhltc slyle chairs c 1880, Chip– pendale style mirrQrs with fretwork cut frames, wool tapestry panels I 700-S0, an. oak coffer c 1650, a Luri Shiraz type Persian woollen rug with central medallions a nd a Biedermeier settee arid six fruitwood chairs.
