Being a recent acquisition for the Queensland Art Gallery Collection it remains vividly in my mind 01 a very fine painting. As the picture progrenes, the1e qualities begin to dominate and the subject becomes rortly diuolved in the play o shape and color. The portrait still remains, the chorocter vividly retained, recognition of the subject still to the tone, but ovor and above this an emotion felt by color. Along with this is accomplished technique - and individuality. Soft and luminous with the slash al red mouth as a do-ninant note. Contoun ore lo,t and found in the most subtle way.
