The style Is the same as for " Blue Poles". The paint, in stringy dollops, cascades over the canvas In the unique " drip" method. The artist is unmistakably Jackson Pollock, whose - giant work "Blue Poles," Australia's most expensive art acqui– sition, caused such a furore. This offering, however, named "Composition 11", Is not for sale. It Is from the magnificent Thyssen– Bornemisza collection, "America & Europe: A Century of Modern Masters." This exhibition, which has The Courier-Mall and BTQ Channel 7 among Its sponsors, opens for the public at the Queensland Art C-allery, Ann Street, Brisbane, on Tuesday, February 12 and continues until March 30. The span of art over the last century Is fully representative of the major movements - from Impres– sionism to Pop Art, from Dadaism to Abstract lmpres:;.onlsm, Surrealism, Cubism, Fauvism and more. Great and renowned painters include Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec, Cezanne and Braque, Renoir and Monet, Van Gogh and Degas. Recent decades are represented by Francis Bacon and Andrew Wyeth, David Hockney, Pollock and many more. II is touring all states, as the Baron did himself recently. It will give the Australian public an unsurpassed opportunity to view for the first time within a single exhibi– tion, the complex interchange of influences between artists working In the two major centres of modern art during the last century - Europe and America. Writes the Baron in an introduc– tion to the exhibition: "To have lived one's life surround– ed by wonderful works of art makes it difficult to articulate the sig- nificance of the experience. Perhaps Bernard Berenson expressed II best when he stated that to put his feelings about art down on paper would be almost indelicate. He might well have added Impossible! "I would like to express the gratitude I feel for the enrichment that this new vision has brought me personally, and I parti, arly wish to thank all those who n,Jde It possible for me to share some part of my experience with others ..." That opportunity now comes to Queensland people to witness and absorb this famous collection. On these pages are some samples from that precious treasure . .. /oo,,•/y painr,•,I ;:r,•,·n \11\h of h,·r r11h1•, " Cha, , \{'r'nt ,ix y,•an in rlr,• .\funfrh Royal Ac111/,•my ,fr,·1•/opinJ,; f1 Jur/.. r1•11/i,1fr ,tyfr lwji,r,• r;•turninJ,: r,, hi, n111 fr, , •l111i'ri,·11 ~·hf'r•· h,• lut,•r mlPf'l1'd th,· l"''l'1'f''' 11/ l m11r,•,,ioniHtt.
