It was organised by the Queensland Art Gallery with the Museums and Art Galleries ofthe Northern Territory and was shown from 31 March 1988 to 26 February 1989. It was the first in the program of exhibitions for the World Expo 88 period. On display throughout the entire duration of Expo, the exhibition emerged from more than 40 000 years of Aboriginal creative life, and revealed the cultural continuity of Aboriginal art from pre-history to the present day.
