Going ..the Christie's way Sir Arthur Streeton's "The Red Gum" f or auction. It was passed in at $5,500. Two paintings by Sir William Dobell fetched the highest prices at the Christie's of London art auction at the Went- worth Hotel last night. They were a 12 -inch by I31 -inch oil entitled "Birth in a Labour Exchange, London, 1934," which reached the top price of $7.500, and "Conversation Piece. 1941," which sold for $6,000. More than 700 people attended the auction - the first of five to be held by Christics' over the next 10 days. The 153 lots sold last night realised $209,000. Other paintings to fetch high prices were "Saturday Fish No I" by John Pass - more, $5.500; "The Goose Girl" painted by Albert Fullwood in 1888, $4.800: John Perceval's "Monk in the Cornfield," $5,000. A cigar box painting by Sir Arthur Streeton, "The Camp, Balmoral circa 1890," reached $2,500, and a seven -inch -high Rodin sculpture of a man's torso sold for $4,200. The sale of paintings will continue this morning and this evening. Highlight of today's sale will be the offering of part of the collection of Major Harold de Vahl Rubin, which includes 25 Dobells
