Beyond the Future: Papers from the Third Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art

About WAA in Taiwan These three works give a perspective of the situation of women in our society in general. But gender bias is also everywhere in the art world; I, as wel l as other women art workers, am aware of the problems. Despite the growing number of women participants in art related fields during the past few decades, women are still marginalised and d isadvantaged in terms of exhibition, review, col lection opportunities and the aesthetic trad ition , compared with their male counterparts . Therefore we - artists, art admin istrators, scholars and curators - after a few discussions, decided to establ ish WAA (Women's Art Association), so that gender issues in the art world would be better understood and tackled . The mission of WAA is: 1 . To collect, conduct, analyse and publ ish research on women's participation in the art industry in Taiwan and to establish a database of such sort with open access. 2. To explore, seek and integrate possible resources in order to provide women participants with assistance. 3. To improve the gender-biased art world, in general. WAA in Taiwan certainly hopes to cooperate with similar groups in other countries and regions, and exchange information.
