The Sixth Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art

The Queensland Art Gallery’s flagship international contemporary art event — the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT) — is the only major series of exhibitions in the world to focus exclusively on the contemporary art of Asia and the Pacific, including Australia. This publication accompanies APT6 and profiles the work of more than 100 artists from 25 countries, including collaborations and collectives, reflecting the diversity of practice across the region. APT6 explores recent shifts in contemporary art in communities that have not been represented in the APT before, including works by artists from North Korea (DPRK), Tibet, Turkey and Iran, and from countries of the Mekong region such as Cambodia and Myanmar (Burma). The innovation of performance and music is explored in Pacific Reggae: Roots Beyond the Reef, and the major thematic cinema program for APT6 looks west to explore the rich film cultures of the Indian subcontinent (Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Kashmir and Pakistan) to West Asia and the Middle East (including Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine). This richly illustrated publication features painting, sculpture, installation, film, video, drawing and printmaking by some of the Asia Pacific region’s most innovative practitioners. Lead essays by the Gallery’s APT curatorial team explore the traditions and histories informing the complex artistic practice of the region and its place in an international context. 260 pages with over 250 illustrations ISBN 9781921503085 For further information on this publication and a complete list of publication titles, please contact: GALLERY STORE /QUEENSLAND ART GALLERY +61 (0)7 3840 7290 GALLERY STORE MODERN /GALLERY OF MODERN ART +61 (0)7 3842 9900 PO Box 3686, South Brisbane Queensland 4101 Australia Email: gallery.store@qag.qld.gov.au www.australianartbooks.com.au www.qag.qld.gov.au
