Photograph: Natasha Harth Pacific Reggae Sounds Saturday 5 December 2009 A highlight of the opening events was Pacific Reggae Sounds — a performance of reggae acts from across the Pacific coinciding with the exhibition component of Pacific Reggae: Roots Beyond the Reef. Over 700 guests attended the event with significant representation from local Pacific and Indigenous communities. One of three vital, multi-artist components of APT6, Pacific Reggae: Roots Beyond the Reef brought together live footage and music videos to complement the performance program, and was developed in consultation with Brent Clough (ABC Radio National/Nasty Tek/Soulmaker), who has a longstanding involvement with the reggae scene in Australia and the Pacific. Talks, discussions and in-conversations The opening weekend public programs included over 40 artist talks, in-conversations, performances and the APT6 exhibition symposium. The public programs provided insights from APT6 artists, Gallery staff and industry professionals into the themes and ideas explored in the exhibition.
