APT6 in Review
43 The Gallery introduced new online resources and began an integrated social media strategy to coincide with the online presence of APT6. The exhibition web pages received a total of 102 000 hits with each visitor viewing an average of six pages and spending approximately five to six minutes on the site. In addition to recent initiatives, such as the online database for the contemporary Asian and Pacific collections supported by funding from the Gordon Darling Foundation, online resources are now offered both as a preliminary guide for gallery visitors and as a research resource. Lead curatorial essays from the APT6 exhibition publication were made available online, and the catalogue is now available as a free, downloadable PDF. APT6 offered a unique opportunity to further develop the Gallery’s online interactive resources, such as virtual tours, which attracted 26 029 page views; exhibition previews; audio tours (1319 downloads); children’s interactives; podcasts; a blog; and student-generated education resources. The Gallery’s comprehensive social media networks were used to promote the exhibition, public programs and events, and to interact with our online audiences. Flickr and YouTube disseminated images and videos of art work installations, artist interviews and public programs. A significant increase in social media followers drove new traffic to the Gallery’s website, which nearly doubled during the exhibition period. Online Karen Chills of excitement to see this!
